2026"Folly Romain Azaman is a percussionist, singer, and dancer who grew up in the cultural and spiritual tradition of Beninese voodoo. We first met each other in 2021 in Cotonou, Benin. We shared dances, songs, and stories related both to the history of the kingdom of Dahomey (southern Benin) and to voodoo religion. What is voodoo? What worldviews are carried by the beliefs and practices associated with it? What stories can we awaken through rhythm?"
Betty Tchomanga
Decolonial (Hi)stories #Folly draws on the oral tradition of storytelling based on parables. The choreography of this portrait is based on traditional rhythms and dances from Benin, Togo, and Ghana. Using his voice and the tapping of his feet as his only instruments, Folly brings the dances that inhabit him to life.
