Masterclass

For his second masterclass with GANG, Folly offers participants an opportunity to embark on a journey at the heart of his research project: The Chair, Between Attachment and Detachment: A Tool and a Sacred Object. The chair is an everyday object, a functional tool. In an artistic context, it reveals itself to be much more, potentially becoming a sacred object, a work of art, a musical instrument, and a dance prop. In this masterclass, Folly invites participants to consider how a chair, through its various facets, can become a tool for personal and collective transformation.

Folly Romain Azaman

Folly Romain Azaman is an artist from Benin who breathes new life into the ancestral rhythms of Voodoo. He was born in 1997 in Cotonou. He has been immersed in this spiritual universe ever since childhood, lulled by the songs, percussion and dances of his mother and the incantations of his father, both of whom are Voodoo priests.

Since meeting Betty Tchomanga in 2021, he has collaborated as a musician, performer and dancer on the pieces Lessons of Darkness, Decolonial (Hi)stories #Folly and Decolonial (Hi)stories #Parallel Portraits.
